We Will Survive Mercury Retrograde

Brace yourself for Mercury retrograde, which will take place between May 29 and June 22 in the sign of Gemini. The most infamous celestial event happens about three times per year. This regularity is just one of the reasons this retrograde is so universally despised. Another reason is that Mercury rules so much of our daily lives - most prominently communication, scheduling, and technology. Rough winds are heading our way, but I wouldn’t barricade the doors just yet. A difficult retrograde isn’t quite the doomsday some people think.

The standard retrograde symptoms are misunderstanding, scattered schedules, and technical difficulties. Considering how many of our communication methods and calendars are tied up in technology… well, it’s a recipe for disaster. Freezing up on zoom when you’re in the middle of a meeting is just frustrating as all get out. As annoying as lags and lost connections may be, you can manage how you respond to the chaos that’s out of your control. Step away from the computer, restart your modem, and take a breath. That meeting wasn’t all that important anyway. Maybe reschedule for June 23rd.

The added impact of Gemini’s planetary ruler in retrograde will likely cause some confusion. Make sure that communication is clear to avoid any damaging misinterpretation. This may manifest as gossip or hearsay. Classic Gemini gone bad. Telling tales out of school is all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Approach social interactions with empathy and grace. It will take a community to weather this storm. Kind and thoughtful communication is the way forward through what will be a difficult retrograde.

Ever heard the expression “measure twice, cut once?” Apply this concept to everything! Read your emails twice before you hit send. Think twice before speaking. Consider if a purchase is REALLY worth your hard-earned dollar before dropping some serious dough. This constant doubling back could be the difference between an embarrassing misstep and a successful interaction. The “new normal” is coming at us fast. Maybe it’s a good idea to slow things down and move forward purposefully.

Some may revert to bad habits and seek out old relationships as a way to simulate stability during a chaotic time. Beware the backslide. Exes in your DMs is not a cute look and usually spells trouble. Just because Mercury appears to be moving backward doesn’t mean you do too. Find a healthy practice or safe space that makes you feel grounded when you need it. Trade Bluelight for sunlight. Getting out into nature is a great way to counteract the Mercury retrograde chaos.
